20/20 Vision in the Year 2020
The year 2020 will be a year full of good puns for eye care professionals. Most people have heard of "20/20 vision", but what is it exactly?
What is 20/20 vision?
20/20 vision means that a person can see a specific standardized size while being 20 feet away. At 20 feet away, it is considered to be distance vision. So if you have 20/100 vision, that means you have to be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with 20/20 vision can see 100 feet away.
Why can't I see 20/20?
The most common causes are the reason why a person wears glasses or contacts: hyperopia (farsightedness) and myopia (nearsightedness). In addition, there are medical causes such as dry eyes, cataracts, macular degeneration, and more that can potentially reduce a person's vision.
